 Die 1853 gegründete University of Melbourne ist Australiens zweitälteste Universität. Dementsprechend renommiert und bekannt ist sie als eine der bedeutendsten Forschungsuniversitäten im asiatischen Raum. Ein Studium hier verbindet Gutes aus alt und neu: Man profitiert von modernen Studienbedingungen und fortschrittlichen Dozenten und kann gleichzeitig den historischen Campus genießen. Zahlreiche Nobelpreisträger und prominente Persönlichkeiten aus Politik, Sport und Wirtschaft haben ihre Ausbildung an der University of Melbourne absolviert. Einer von vielen ist Sir Macfarlane Burnet, der den Nobelpreis in Medizin für seine Arbeit am menschlichen Immunsystem erhalten hat.
Die University of Melbourne gehört zu der Group of Eight, dem Zusammenschluss der acht größten australischen Forschungsuniversitäten und wurde vom Good Universities Guide 2001- 2002 zur Universität des Jahres gekürt.
Im Jahre 2008, hat die University of Melbourne mit seinem Melbourne Model einen innovativen Weg der Neustrukturierung der Studienprogramme eingeschlagen und eine kleine Anzahl von Undergraduate Abschlüssen, ergänzt durch Graduate Schools zur Spezialisierung, eingeführt. Dieses neue Studiensystem wurde konzipiert, um sich den europäischen, asiatischen und nordamerikanischen Standards anzupassen und die Abschlüsse und Lehrprogramme zu internationalisieren. | |
